Keeping Abreast is a UK charity providing information, lived-experience support and community connection for people considering or undergoing breast reconstruction following breast cancer or following a hereditary or genetic breast cancer risk, including those who have been identified as carrying a gene such as BRCA1 or BRCA2.

We work alongside healthcare professionals to complement clinical care, helping patients feel more informed, prepared and supported throughout their reconstruction journey.

How we support your patients

Our services include:

• One-to-one peer support from trained volunteers with lived experience
• In-person support groups and Show & Tell sessions
• Online peer support communities
• Information and practical resources
• Support by phone and email from our team
• Signposting to relevant services and organisations

Our support is available at different stages of the reconstruction journey, from considering reconstruction and preparing for surgery through to recovery, revision surgery and longer-term adjustment.

Working in partnership

We know that patients often benefit from speaking to someone who has been through a similar experience alongside the information and care provided by their clinical team.

Keeping Abreast does not provide medical advice or replace clinical care. Our role is to provide lived-experience insight, peer support and trusted information to complement the support provided by healthcare professionals.

We are keen to work with hospitals, breast care teams, plastic surgery departments and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients can access our support at the right time.

We can provide information about our services, referral pathways and resources for your patients. We also have leaflets and information materials available for hospitals and healthcare settings.
